The champions return: rivalries reignite in Gstaad

Alexander Bublik, Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud: former winners are returning to Gstaad in 2026 to reignite rivalries on the Alpine clay courts.

In Gstaad, some players are not just passing through. They return, again and again, to where they have already won, where the public awaits them. The 2026 edition of the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad will bring together several former tournament winners, ready to reignite well-known rivalries and defend their territory on the Alpine clay.

Defending champion Alexander Bublik arrives in the Saanenland with a new status. Now ranked in the world’s top 10, the Kazakh no longer hides his ambitions. His victory last year, his first on clay, marked a turning point both in his career and in his relationship with the Gstaad crowd, who are captivated by his unpredictable play and temperament.

Facing him are opponents who know exactly what it takes to succeed here. Matteo Berrettini, two-time champion (2018, 2024) and finalist in 2022, returns to a tournament that has often served as his ideal playground. The Italian has built part of his legend in Gstaad, and each of his appearances is followed with particular attention.

Another key figure is Casper Ruud, consecutive winner in 2021 and 2022. Consistent, solid and formidable on clay, the Norwegian returns with the firm intention of reminding everyone that he remains one of the specialists on this surface. His consistency contrasts with Bublik’s more instinctive style, promising clashes of styles that are as exciting as they are unpredictable.

Add to that Arthur Cazaux, semi-finalist in 2025, beaten only by Bublik, and new contenders seeking recognition, and the stage is set. In Gstaad, champions never return by chance; they return to win and to measure themselves against each other.
